Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a form of treatment where medicine is injected into blood vessels or lymph vessels that causes them to shrink. It is commonly used to treat varicose (spider) veins. When the medicine is injected directly into the spider vein, the solution causes the vein walls to swell, stick together and seal shut, stopping the flow of blood. As a result, the vein fades within a few weeks. The procedure typically is performed within 30 minutes but varies among the area being treated. Minor stinging may occur while the procedure is taking place. After the procedure, it is important to walk around to prevent formation of blood clots in your legs. Most people return to normal activities on the same day, but it is important to avoid sun exposure to the treated area for two weeks after the procedure.
